Current R & D projects include an HVAC
control system with graphic display and wireless network capability
for integration into open protocol building automation systems
such as Bacnet, Lonworks, and Modbus (this is a third-generation
project for a long-term customer). In an effort to return to
more diverse product lines as in prior years, in-house self-funded
R & D projects include "PhoneCall Lock System"
a security product for large scale users like cities and utilities,
and a "Motion Platform" that simulates the movements
of a vehicle intended for flight schools, arcades, and video
game applications.
Typically, Research Applications does not
price its services to make a profit on research, development,
and design. Instead, RAi charges close to the true in-house costs
of design. This holds start-up and cash-up-front costs to an
absolute minimum. RAi company profit is intended to come from
the routine long-term manufacturing of products we designed and
not from R & D services, although some design-only work is
done.
