Research and Development
Ideas for new products frequently come from our own in-house research or are suggested by others who are knowledgeable long-term insiders to some particular industry or business. We recognize that while most companies are experts in selling and using their own products, they are not necessarily equipped to design new products. Often, RAi becomes the designer and manufacturer of a new product, and the marketing is done by the source of the product idea. RAi is always seeking to identify new products to design and manufacture as older products are retired.

Current R & D projects include an HVAC control system with graphic display and wireless network capability for integration into open protocol building automation systems such as Bacnet, Lonworks, and Modbus (this is a third-generation project for a long-term customer). In an effort to return to more diverse product lines as in prior years, in-house self-funded R & D projects include "PhoneCall Lock System" a security product for large scale users like cities and utilities, and a "Motion Platform" that simulates the movements of a vehicle intended for flight schools, arcades, and video game applications.

Typically, Research Applications does not price its services to make a profit on research, development, and design. Instead, RAi charges close to the true in-house costs of design. This holds start-up and cash-up-front costs to an absolute minimum. RAi company profit is intended to come from the routine long-term manufacturing of products we designed and not from R & D services, although some design-only work is done.
