EASY-KEY® BLOOD GLUCOSE / INSULIN METER

Small hand-held blood glucose measuring instruments are currently the main method used by diabetics for controlling their blood sugar level. Inside the instrument is a sophisticated sensor system controlled by a microprocessor. On this project, the client, Boehringer Mannheim, requested that the software (assembly language control program in ROM memory) be verified to meet the requirements of United States Food and Drug Administration regulations concerning medical devices. This required our engineers to quickly become familiar with a new microprocessor language and hardware so that the design specifications could be checked against detailed software module tests on the final product. During the course of the work, some software design defects were discovered and corrected, which resulted in a better, safer product at the time of initial product launch.
