CHILLER OPTIMIZER® CHILLER CONTROL SYSTEMS Research Applications solved numerous technical problems to design and manufacture chiller control systems that were sold exclusively by sixty Trane Air Conditioning franchises throughout North America. These were very successful retrofit controls for large high-rise buildings. The system controlled centrifugal, screw, absorption, and reciprocating chiller systems using temperature reset, soft start, soft loading, low-load cycle, lead/lag sequencing, load shedding, and air temperature lockout strategies. Chiller Optimizer controls routinely achieved energy savings between 17% and 22% without any compromise in user comfort. This product was so effective and reliable that Southern California Edison and other California electric companies were rebating 50% of the cost back to customers that installed this product. At one time, 30% of all hospitals in Southern California had Chiller Optimizer systems.
